SAILCLOTH: It all starts with our Sailcloth. To make the best sails, you have to start with the best sailcloth, PERIOD! No other sailmaker tests sailcloth like Haarstick (most do not test cloth at all), so no one else knows sailcloth like Haarstick. Our Impact Flutter Testing is unrivaled in its ability to select only the very best sailcloth from all the batches from all four major cloth manufacturers. It exceeds the cloth manufacturers own testing, so we regularly reject their best efforts (please click through to our Technical Articles Page for more information on Haarstick cloth selection).
COMPUTER TECHNOLOGIES: Steve Haarstick has been an industry innovator since he broke onto the sailmaking scene in the 1960's (click here to see his Industry Innovations). He pioneered automated computer cutting, 18 years before it became the industry standard. Our Gerber System 90 cuts to an incredible 8/1000 of an inch precision! Combine this with our proprietary design and CAD/CAM systems and we get fully faired sails, right off the cutter, everytime. No fairing sticks, no curve "cleansing" is needed for curves that did not translate from design to panels like so many other systems. We do not simply run an of-the-shelf design program and then guess at what curves to use.
SAIL DESIGN: Steve's Aeronautical Engineering background (MS degree from Stephens Institute) and his sailmaking and sail design experience (over 38 years) provides the foundation for Haarstick sail design. Many of our designs are optimized for Lake and Bay sailing performance. Our company was founded on Cayuga Lake in Ithaca, NY in 1970, so right from the start the emphasis was to make fast, durable Lake sails. Today, we are located in Rochester, NY in the center of the south shore of Lake Ontario, one of the Great Lakes. Our customers have always and continue to excel in our local conditions and anywhere with similar conditions. That is, light to moderate winds with flat water to significant wave chop (see our Results Pages). Our sails are designed to be powerful to get you up to speed quickly and give you that extra punch to keep the boat driving forward in our notorious wave chop. But should you sail in higher winds or complete Offshore cruises or transports, we have considerable experience designing sails for open water as well as coastal sailing. For over 32 years, Steve Haarstick has been delivering the world fast sails that just plain hold their shape longer than any others.
WARRANTY: All our sails come with one of the industries strongest 2-Year warranties. We stand behind our design and products for a full 2 years covering sail degradation or failure due to normal use. We will correct any defect in workmanship or design free of charge within one year from the date of purchase.
SERVICE: As a service-oriented company, we have representatives in many regions throughout the Northeast US and Canada. We offer rig tuning and sail trimming guides with our sails to help you get the most out of your new Haarstick sail right out of the bag. Our representatives are available by phone or Email anytime for advice and consultation. We also perform On-the-Water service calls for no additional fee to show you how to trim your sails, evaluate any possible problems, and help you get to finish line faster. Most of our Service Staff are trained sailing coaches with years of racing and cruising experience under their belts. We also offer on-site rig measurement and tuning, sail trim coaching, crewwork coaching, and race tactical help. Because we are a smaller sailmaking company you get the attention you deserve. You will not be lost in the masses.
